WHO WE ARE
“THE EARTH IS BUT ONE COUNTRY AND MANKIND ITS CITIZENS”
— BAHÁ’U’LLÁH
The Bahá’í Community of Hobsons Bay is working towards a goal which is common to all Bahá’ís around the world – the unity of mankind. At this point in history, it is pretty clear that humanity cannot progress until the people of the world are united. The Bahá’í community hopes to demonstrate, through its whole-hearted practise of the principle “unity in diversity”, that such a unity amongst people of differing race, religious background and social status is indeed very much possible.
Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Brooklyn, Laverton, Newport, Seabrook, Seaholme, Spotswood, South Kingsville, Williamstown and Williamstown North are so diverse in nature and already celebrate diversity in so many ways. The Hobsons Bay community aims to embrace everything that our wonderful community has to offer and mix it with learnings from the global Baháʼí community at a local level. We do this by holding regular devotional gatherings (sharing readings on relevant societal themes), celebrating Baháʼí Holy days, running study circles on moral empowerment and facilitating junior youth groups and children's classes.
ACTIVITIES

STUDY CIRCLES
The purpose of Baháʼí study circles is to provide participants (aged 15 and up) with the knowledge, spiritual insights and skills to enable them to contribute to the betterment of society, starting with their own neighbourhood. This is done through systematic study of a sequence of courses based on the Baha’i Writings.

DEVOTIONALS
Would you like to discuss and reflect on the important things in life? We hold regular 'Devotionals' where we share readings from the world's major religions, philosophers and poets all on a particular theme. We then discuss how they are connected and relate to our lives. Feel free to bring along something that inspires you.

JUNIOR YOUTH CLASSES
The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program is open to young people aged between 12 and 15, and assists them to navigate through a crucial stage in their lives. Those in their early adolescent years possess altruism, a sense of justice, eagerness to learn about the universe, and a desire to contribute to the construction of a better world.

CHILDREN'S CLASSES
We believe that the development of moral capacities in our children is of fundamental importance not only to their own happiness but also to the advancement of humanity as a whole.
Providing spiritual education for children has long been an element of the culture of the Baháʼí community. We hold weekly children’s classes in Altona Meadows that are open to all children, subject to parental approval.
